Make February a Time For Self-love

Today, Americans spend an average of $196 per person on Valentine’ Day gifts, collectively send over 145 million Valentine’s Day cards and farmers in the US grow roughly 250 million roses throughout the year in order to supply countries around the world with the holiday’s most noticeable flower (Jenkins, Jeon, Good Housekeeping Magazine). All in the name of love.

But, as the idea of love transforms in time, there’s a new focus on the world’s most romantic holiday - self love. Merriman-Webster defines self love as “an appreciation for one’s own worth or virtue” and “proper regard for and attention to one’s own happiness or well-being.”

What if this Valentine’s Day we remembered to recognize ourselves? What if we spent one day, not forgoing the celebration of all types of love - whether it be for your significant other, kids and pets - but also including ourselves in the celebration? How would it feel? What would that look like for you?

This year the team at Niche Pilates Online encourages you to focus on the practice of self love. Whether it be treating yourself to a cup of coffee, starting a new book or committing to NPO’s new weekly plan (on the mat or reformer), the benefits of practicing self love are plentiful. In doing so, you may feel more confident, more motivated, experience less anxiety, increased self-awareness and better sleep habits. And by feeling more confident and making space for yourself, you will also see differences in your productivity, relationships and overall well-being.

As the saying goes, “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” So, this February, take some time to nourish your mind, body and soul and see how even just a few minutes of practicing self-love each day can change your life.
